For sale by owner. Southeast Bight, South East Bight is a small, isolated community located on the western shores of Placentia Bay on the Burin Peninsula. The only way to get to South East Bight is by ferry or your own boat. It is sometimes thought to be an island because of this. But the reason is that there are no roads accessing the community. Many people from the community travel to Monkstown in the winter by ski-doo, but it is very uncommon to try to get there in the summer, because of marsh, bogs, ponds and hills. To get to SEB one must travel towards Marystown on the Burin Peninsula, turn off the highway at Boat Harbour, travel to Petite Forte and then take a half-hour ferry ride to South East Bight.The community name came from the direction one takes to reach the community, and bight refers to a wide inlet in the coast.
The community itself has a concrete road going through the entire place. The ferry is not a car ferry so your vehicle will stay in Petite Forte and you will need a quad or a side by side if you are living there full time. There are 2 stores in the community, a post office, a RC church, volunteer fire department, and a school that goes from Kindergarten to Grade 9. '
THe house has 4 bedrooms ( the4th bedroom could easily be turned into a rec room or in law suite), a large kitchen, large living room / dining room, porch, laundry room, linen closet. It's all on one level. THe water is a well that is located across the road and has a pump. We have never had any issues with that. We have the papers for the house as well as the deed. There is a shed in the back for storage.
Everyone who lives in the community lives there year round, the ferry runs year round. The WIFI is good, all my guests never had any issues or never complained in any way.
We lived there and raised our girls for 8 years, I loved living there but changed careers and had to move. Due to a busy work schedule , we don't get there as often as we would like.
In the summer and winter, residents hike out to little re settled communities such as Little Paradies/ Big Paradise to talk with the seasonal residents or take part in social activities, cabin/ house parties, garden parties are a common thing if one would like to enjoy the social life.
